MEDICAL QUESTIONS IN BETWEEN APPOINTMENTS

LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCIES

For life-threatening emergencies [e.g. acute risk of suicide or hurting one’s self or others, having a seizure, psychotic agitation, etc.] call 911. These matters should not be handled by leaving a message for the clinician.

URGENT PSYCHIATRIC MATTERS

For very urgent matters, which absolutely cannot wait until the next business day call Green Oaks hospital triage desk at 972-770-0818 or go to Green Oaks Psychiatric Emergency Room at 7808 Clodus Fields Dr, Dallas, TX 75251.  These matters should not be handled by leaving a message for the clinician.

NON URGENT QUESTIONS

  • If you have a non-emergent question and cannot wait until the next appointment then it is recommended that you reschedule your appointment for an earlier date and time.  You can reschedule via the patient portal at patientfusion.com or you can call the office at 972-656-9532.  We will try our best to work you into the schedule within 1-2 business days if no appointment times are available.
  • If you have a simple and straightforward question then send an electronic message through your patient portal.  If you do not have internet access you can call and leave a detailed message at 972-656-9532. We will make every attempt to respond to your question the same business day.   Calls or electronic messages received Monday through Thursday after 3pm or on  Friday, Saturday, or Sunday will be returned the next business day.

HOW DO I GET PRESCRIPTION REFILLS?

I make every effort to give you a prescription at your appointments with enough refills to last you until your next follow up.   If you have an unforeseen emergency, make sure to reschedule your appointment within 2 weeks.  After you have scheduled your appointment follow the instructions below on how to get a new prescription.

NON ADHD MEDICATION REFILLS:

  1. Ask the pharmacy to send us an e-request, call us, or fax a request for a new prescription.  Make sure they have the correct contact information: 17746 Preston Rd #100 Dallas, TX 75252, fax 972-534-1284, and phone number 972-656-9532.
  2. E-requests are the fastest way that we can process your refill.

ADHD MEDICATION REFILLS:

Unfortunately there is a shortage on ADHD medication and this is causing problems for patients since these prescriptions cannot be transferred to another pharmacy.   THIS IS WHY we will no longer initiate refill requests in our office.  In order for you to get your medication without delay it is important to verify that your pharmacy has your medication in stock and is holding that stock for you.  There are step by step details below that you can follow.

BEFORE calling your pharmacy for a refill login to your patient portal and pull up your health records.  Go to medications to see when prescriptions were sent to your pharmacy.  You are able to refill any prescription that has met its fill date but has not gone 20 days  past the fill date.  If you have any difficulties with customer service then print out this information sheet and give it to the pharmacy.   It is not your responsibility to work their system to get your medication filled.  It is their responsibility to provide good customer service to you.   They should be communicating with our office if they are having any difficulties processing your prescription.

Pharmacy C2 Refill Instruction Sheet   C2 Friendly Pharmacies

IF YOU HAVE A PRESCRIPTION THAT WAS SENT WITH A FILL DATE TO THE PHARMACY:

  1. With your patient portal open call the pharmacy and request a refill of the script they have on a file.
  2. If the pharmacy is unable to find the prescription on file THEN THE PHARMACY MUST CALL OUR OFFICE AND LEAVE US A MESSAGE ADVISING US THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PRESCRIPTION ON FILE AND REQUEST WE SEND ANOTHER PRESCRIPTION.  We will not be able to proceed with the refill until they leave us this message.  We will not call the pharmacy, they need to call us if they cannot find the prescription in their system.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PRESCRIPTION AND NEED A NEW ONE:

  1. Call your pharmacy and verify that they have your medication in stock.
  2. Ask them to hold the medication for you.
  3. Ask the pharmacy to send us an e-request, call us, or fax a request for a new prescription.  Make sure they have the correct contact information: 17746 Preston Rd #100 Dallas, TX 75252, fax 972-534-1284, and phone number 972-656-9532.
  4. It is likely that your pharmacy will tell you that an ADHD medication refill request cannot be sent electronically.  They can send it electronically which will prompt us to create an original and new prescription that we will e-scribe to them.
  5.  If they will not or cannot send it electronically then they can send us a paper fax request or can call our office and leave a message requesting us to send a prescription.

IF THE PHARMACY IS OUT OF STOCK OF YOUR ADHD MEDICATION:

  1. The pharmacy MUST leave us a message stating they are out of stock AND are voiding your prescription.
  2. Find a pharmacy that has the medication in stock and ask them to hold that stock for you.
  3. This pharmacy must contact our office for a new prescription to be sent.  Make sure they have the correct contact information: 17746 Preston Rd #100 Dallas, TX 75252, fax 972-534-1284, and phone number 972-656-9532.
  4. The pharmacy can decide how to contact our office for a new prescription.  They can e-request, fax, or call us.

Your refill request will be denied if called into the office, if you are requesting an early refill, or if you do not have an appointment scheduled.  Autofax refill requests from the pharmacy will also be denied.  Requests for early refills  must occur at an appointment and may not be granted.

HOW DOES YOUR OFFICE PROCESS PRIOR AUTHORIZATIONS?

Your insurance may have a system in place that requires a prior authorization for certain medications.  The pharmacy will inform you if your medication requires a prior authorization.  Your pharmacy will need to initiate the prior authorization through covermymeds.com.  Once the pharmacy completes their part of the form they need to fax us the key code, which allows us to complete the prior authorization.   Due to the high volume of prior authorizations it could take our office several business days to complete the authorization.  Once completed your insurance company will either approve or deny the authorization, which can take several business days as well.    Once your insurance has made a determination, they will send a notification directly to pharmacy.  If your pharmacy advises that your insurance denied the prior authorization then schedule an appointment so we can discuss other treatment options.

SHOULD I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?

At the Morrison Clinic we encourage you to make your health a priority in your life.  Making your health a priority means that you invest the necessary time and money in order to achieve optimal health.   Attending your appointments is vital to you achieving optimal health.  It is also important that you be able to determine if you need to be seen sooner than your scheduled appointment.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIRE AN APPOINTMENT:

-New prescriptions and medication refills.

-Any adjustment that needs to be made to your current medications.

-If you are having problems with your medication such as side effects or if you feel the medication is not effective in managing your symptoms.

-If you or a loved one notices a change in your mood or personality.

HOW LONG ARE MY FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENTS?

The length for established patient appointments are 15 minutes, we respect your time and will try to remain on schedule.   The most common reason we run behind is due to spending more than the allotted time with a patient who is struggling.   In order to respect the time of other patients, please limit the number of issues per visit.  We want to make sure your most pressing concerns can be addressed during your appointment.  When scheduling your appointment you are welcome to make additional follow up visits for the rest of your concerns or request a 30 minute appointment.
