Morrison Clinic New Patient Triage
At the Morrison Clinic, we want to be transparent about the services we provide. We feel it is important for patients, family members, counselors, and medical providers to know in advance if we are the best fit for the person in need. Since we do not have hospital privileges, we humbly realize that we cannot provide the care that certain clients deserve. Clients who have a psychiatric illness that poses a high risk of hospitalization need to be seen by a clinician who can rapidly and seamlessly admit them into the hospital. It is not in the best interest of the patient to be referred to the emergency room while they are in the middle of a psychiatric emergency. The process of psychiatric hospitalization can be chaotic and stressful for the patient and their family. In order to decrease the chaos, it is best that the patient work with a clinician who can directly admit them to the hospital.
Patients that should be seen by a clinician with hospital privileges
If the patient meets ANY of these criteria, then we do not recommend scheduling with the Morrison Clinic:
- Any previous psychiatric hospitalizations
- Diagnosis or possible diagnosis of anorexia or bulemia
- Diagnosis or possible diagnosis of addiction
- Current or previous psychosis
- Diagnosis or possible diagnosis of Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective Disorder
- Diagnosis or possible diagnosis of a personality disorder
- History of a suicide attempt
- Current suicidal ideations with plan to end their life AND intention to act on that plan.
- Homicidal Ideation
- History of or current symptoms of violence or physical aggression

Outpatient Treatment
For patients needing an outpatient clinician with hospital privileges we recommend the Paul M. Bass Administrative and Clinical Center at UTSW.
For patients that pose a risk of harming themselves or someone else consider inpatient hospitalization. If the patient is having severe difficulty functioning in several areas of their life (work, home, socially, school) then they might need a higher level of care. Consider an intensive outpatient program or a partial hospitalization program. Remember unlike partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs do not always offer medication management.
Adult Inpatient Psychiatry
Garland Behavioral Health offers adult inpatient care, geriatric care, a psychiatric ICU for patients with psychosis, and a dual diagnosis unit.

Zale Lipshy at UT Southwestern in Dallas. They also offer Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Ketamine Infusion Therapy, and Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)

Life Paths Mobile Crisis Outreach Team provides services for children and adults living in Collin County regardless of insurance status or income. They have a Crisis Hotline at 1.877.422.5939. This hotline has trained behavioral health professionals available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They have a clinically staffed mobile treatment teams that provide prompt face-to-face crisis assessment, crisis intervention, crisis follow-up, and relapse prevention for up to 90 days for individuals in the community.
